Halloween and a signing

Some not very good pictures of a signing with Brandon Mull and my Hallowe'en costume (Eowyn from Lord of the Rings) :

I just have to say, Brandon Mull is amazing. He's wildly popular (the line snaked clear through the mall - luckily, I was about #150 in line, so I only had to wait for an hour and 45 minutes before my turn to talk to him) and could easily impose all sorts of rules on his signings. He doesn't though. He stays until every single fan has had a chance to talk to him and have their books signed. I took two books down with me (I already have all of his others signed). Barnes & Noble had a rule that only one book per person could be personalized. He'd sign them all, but not personalize them. Well, I saw him personalize a giant stack for the little girl right ahead of me. When I got up there, I still had my teacher name tag on, and we got talking about teaching. I mentioned that I'm also a librarian, and he personalized both of my books as well. He was so complimentary of teachers and librarians and said how much he counts on and appreciates both professions. Then he signed a couple of posters for me - both donated, one to my classroom and one to my library. He's seriously a class act, and I'm so pleased that I've had the chance to talk with him twice now. He'll always be a favorite author.

This was my favorite part - I do love a fabulous updo.

You can't really get the full effect this way, but this was a tiara made out of bobby pins and combs.

My Eowyn dress...I made it several years ago.

Showing off my sleeves, which I love.
Our literary day at school was fantastic. The kids brought books that represented their costumes - I had one little boy dress up as the Ghost of Christmas Past and carry A Christmas Carol! Another was the Man in the Yellow Hat from Curious George. It was fantastic. I'd expected a lot of bad behavior, but didn't get any. I taught the morning lessons and the kids responded better than I could have hoped. They were awesome! I'm hoping that awesomeness carries over to tomorrow, when I start teaching my main science unit - complete with observation by my professor. Wish me luck!
